Why Mood Boards Matter

We collect images, take screenshots and build Pinterest boards to capture our energy, our goals —boards full of inspiration on how we want to live — fashion, hair, interiors, travel, cars, even recipes to make.

Some often start a New Year by creating a vision board of what they hold as goals for the year, big picture, long term goals. It's a great way to start the year, marking the things that you want to set out to achieve. It can also be a little intimidating and overwhelming to think about what the year wants to be. I often draw a blank at dreaming big. I find more focus on a smaller scale and love to pull together little mood boards that capture a mood, a thought, a future self.

It doesn't need to be a brand new year to curate a board — let it be the little things. Take a random Wednesday while your curled up on the sofa at the end of the day and capture images that create a mood that you're feeling. Collage them in a way that is attractive to you. It's fun to see what you clip when you do it without hesitation, and when you see it all come together all of a sudden you're looking at how you want your future to look. By future, it could be what you plan on wearing on an upcoming trip, maybe you're in the mood to rearrange furniture and decor, or maybe you feel ready for a fresh new look. You can mood board seasonally when you're planning how you want your outdoor space to feel or curating your summer wardrobe, the possibilities are endless — and when we start collecting pieces of what we hope for, what we want to see — we're manifesting!

Wait what? Yes! Use the mood board to push you. There's a reason you just clipped together all those little pieces — it's because you'd like to see yourself living in it —

Sometimes we get stuck or maybe things don't feel possible or just too far out of reach. But — if we don't start visually seeing ourselves where we want to be, we'll never get there. Start small and I promise you'll start to see yourself making shifts that align with your new vision, and that's where the momentum starts to build. The vignette you pinned that you put in your September mood board? All of a sudden those are the decor pieces you're looking for instead of making random purchases. Instead of scrambling to come up with a dinner idea, pre plan one or two meals a week. It's working towards something and when we see that we can accomplish little things, we've just allowed the scope to get bigger and bigger.

Now what —

Clear clutter to make way for new — new beginnings, new visions, new surroundings — the ones you hope for. Stagnant energy doesn't encourage change. Room clean outs, closets, all of it — make space for you to become what you're manifesting. Subtle shifts in how you live your day to day will help you level up to the vision you see yourself in. If you're surrounded by things that no longer bring you joy, they will bring joy to someone else. That alone is great energy. Donate to charity, sell on marketplace. Clearing excess and keeping what is truly important and that has purpose is the very beginning of creating the vision you're hoping for.

Look around, do you have unfinished projects? Finish them. Pay attention to the details and spend the time taking care of them.

You're investing in yourself after all <3
